There are few prettier settings in Melbourne for lunch than the Terrace cafe. Tucked inside the beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens, it’s right next to the vast Ornamental Lake and has amazing views across the gardens to Government House. In even more excellent news, this little slice of bucolic paradise has recently re-opened after a major renovation from new operator, the Darling Group, which includes Top Paddock, Higher Ground and Sorrento’s Stingers in its portfolio.
Darling Group worked alongside leading Melbourne design practice Technē Architecture & Interior Design (Garden State Hotel, Mammoth, Tonka) to bring their vision for The Terrace Cafe to life. Whether you’re dining inside or on the vast, umbrella-shaded terrace, you’ll love the botanical motifs and clever nods to Romanticism.
The all-day menu has been crafted by acclaimed Darling Group Executive Chef Ash Hicks and Group Head Chef Chris Mitchell to champion the best of seasonal produce. You can expect delicious dishes such as fried eggs with tahini yoghurt, spiced beef, dill, cucumber and focaccia to a breakfast plate with smoked salmon, soft boiled egg, pumpernickel, house pickles, sprouts, tomato and chive labne; and of course, Darling Group’s famous blueberry and ricotta hotcakes topped with seasonal berries, whipped cream, toasted seeds and grains, and a dash of maple syrup. There are also some smart takeaway options for those wanting to stroll through the world-famous gardens.
As well as the cafe, The Terrace is now home to a separate fully renovated function space that makes the unforgettable spot for weddings, parties, conferences, product launches and private functions. Whether you’re interested in hosting a sit-down event or cocktail soirée, this unique space is now available to book now.
